The History of CAST
Richard Hornby and Linda Allyn, glass artists and owners of Fire Ranch Glassworks and
Gallery in Catalina, are both native Tucsonans who moved to Catalina in 1999. Although they came to Catalina for a beautiful
and peaceful setting in which to create their art, they were surprised and pleased to find a real sense of community surrounding
them.
When construction
was completed on their very unique studio, they decided to hold a Holiday Open House for their new neighbors. The Open
House evolved into an annual event, and the couple were surprised to discover that they were living in a community filled
with many other talented artists.
In
2003, Richard and Linda decided to see if any neighboring artists would be interested in opening their own studios in a combined
effort to showcase Catalina's artistic talent. The first studio tour included over 20 participating artists at a
dozen locations, with a single page map and artists guide.
Just as each individual artist transforms thought into form, collectively the Catalina
artists' vision became the Catalina Artists Studio Tour, a much-anticipated event state-wide with a full-color guide and
wonderful sponsors. Many, many thanks to all who've participated in and supported the event and our artists through
the years. Our intention is to continue for many years to come!
